Mid 19th century Caucasian style Shashqua sword with heavy silver mountings with regimental attribution.
Curved 29 inch (73.5 cm) blade with broad shallow fuller marked on both sides 189, probably indicating use by an officer of the 189th Izmail infantry regiment. Niello silver hilt of characteristic form deeply chased with leaf and tendil borders and repeating designs. Black leather covered scabbard with silver mounts en style with the hilt.
