Description:
Model 1881 Russian Imperial Army's dragoon saber. Slightly curved single edge steel blade decorated with etched inscription on one side "Don Cavalry Brigade" and on the other side "For God and Motherland!" as well as images of the Russian imperial eagle and abbreviation "ДКБ" for "Don Cavalry Brigade" and date 1919. The hilt has a black painted wooden handle and brass fittings. The Nicholas II cipher on the pommel. The black leather covered wooden scabbard has brass fittings.
The saber shows some wear and patina on brass parts, but overall is in very good condition considering its age. A great number of provided images should help you to fully assess the condition of this item.
The 9th Don Cavalry Brigade was formed in general Mamontov's Don Army as a part of the 10th Don Division. On the 5th of October of 1919 it consisted of 1516 "sabers," 28 machine guns and 3 artillery pieces. Commander Major-General Georgy Tatarkin (1875 - 1947).
