Elite dated c. 1826 Turkish / Ottoman Klytch sword with ivory grip and profusely decorated gilt silver scabbard.

Description:

Ivory "Mameluk grip" shaped hilt, silver quillon block of cruciform shape decorated with engraved gilt floral ornamentation. Slightly curved hand forged steel blade. Red material covered wooden hilt has heavy silver fittings decorated with chased niello ornamentation and gilt en suite with the grip. The circular niello cartouch has a Hijri calendar date 1242 which corresponds to Gregorian date of 1826.
