Mid-19th century Russian Caucasus type Shashqua sword decorated with the order of St. Anne, 4th class for Gallantry. This sword belonged to a Georgian noble which is evident from a name of the owner etched on on the blade in Georgian. The St. Anna award was most likely received for the Caucasian War of 1817-1864.
Description:
Slightly curved single edged hand forged blade inscribed with owner's name in Georgian: Prince Iosif Tsulukidze (князь Иосиф Цилукидзе) under the Royal crown on one side and an image of a Hungarian Crown (indicating a maker) on the other. The hilt is is overed with gilt silver decorated with beading and the pommel is made of solid ivory. The pommel hon the front as inscription in Russian "ЗА ХРАБРОСТЬ" (For Gallantry) and a gold enameled order of the St. Anne, 4th class. Wooden original 19th century brown leather covered scabbard has silver fittings decorated en suite with the hilt.
Condition: Some corrosion on the blade. The origial leather on the scabbard has significant deterioation, especially on the back.
