A highly important presentation Caucasian palash sword with blade by Schaff and sons, St. Petersburg most likely presented to Tsarevich Aleksei in 1913 on the occasion of Tercentenary of the Romanov Dynasty.

The straight, single fuller blade with inlaid gold monogram of Nicholas II and dedication in Cyrillic 'To Adored Most August Ataman of all Cossack troops / from Don Life Guard Battery 1913'; the handle with lion head end decorated with silver gilt and niello ornamentation, granulation and carved bone panel; full scabbard decorated en suite with extensive silver-gilt and niello decorations and four intricately carved bone panels against gilded ground.

The blade marked “Shaaf & Sons, St. Petersburg” under the Imperial warrant. Measuring 82 cm. (blade); full length is 97 cm. The fittings are of silver, gold, bone, niello.
