Description:
Rare 4th class cross of the Russian military order of Saint George, made of gold and covered with white enamel on both sides. Central medallion has a high quality hand-painted depiction of horseman Saint George slaying the Dragon on pink background one side and order's cipher on the other. The cross comes with an original gold loop wire and is marked with maker's mark "ВД," Town mark of Saint Petersburg and "56" zolotniks (14 k) gold purity mark. It measures approx. 35 mm across. It comes with a provenance of well known American auction.
Condition: Superb original condition, ever so tiny hair crack and minor dirt on white enamel and very minor cosmetic scratches on the gold surface as shown.
